Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex type 2 virus, sometimes referred to as "hsv" or "hsv 2." It is estimated that one in four American adults are infected with the virus that causes genital herpes, although an estimated eighty percent remain unaware that they are infected because symptoms are often very mild or nonexistent.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for genital herpes at this time. However, there are treatment options available.
